MANILA - A "yellow" power alert was raised in Luzon on Monday, meaning there was not enough reserve capacity, the National Grid Corp said.

The warning over the country's largest and most populous island will be effective from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Demand is predicted to peak at 8,926 megawatts compared to available capacity of 9,515 MW, the NGCP said.

A yellow alert means power reserves have dropped below the minimum 647 MW. Reserves on Monday were estimated at 248 MW, a DZMM report said.

It is a notch lower than red alert which means demand is expected to exceed supply, raising the possibility of power outages.
